Latin translation, transcription, genealogical and archive services

Claire Jarvis PhD(Cantab) MSc(Econ) PgDip(ARM)

Jarvis Transcriptions is a document transcription and Latin translation service directed by Dr Claire Jarvis, a qualified archivist and historian, with more than 30 years' experience as a university research fellow, tutor in Latin, palaeography and family history, and freelance researcher in English local and population history.

Experienced in reading old handwriting and transcribing documents from mid-thirteenth century court rolls to late nineteenth century diaries, Jarvis Transcriptions provides expert transcriptions of historical documents and translations from Latin for academics, students and family historians, as well as a range of genealogical and archival services for individuals and community groups.

We specialise in very quick turnaround of small pieces of work such as transcriptions of wills, charters, deeds and legal records, and archive searches for records that are not indexed online, such as Chancery Masters documents and property records from the Valuation Office Survey.

We are based in south-west London, and regularly undertake work at The National Archives, the London Metropolitan Archives, the City of Westminster Archives, Guildhall Library, and several local record offices, including the Surrey History Centre, The Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies, and the Essex Record Office.
